Mahim Causeway is an essential link road that connects South Mumbai with its northern suburbs. It is a causeway that connects the suburbs that comprise Mahim in the southern part of the city and Bandra towards the north.

Mahim Causeway Mahim Causeway was constructed between 1841 and 1846 to join the island Salsette to Mahim. The swampy areas between the two islands made traveling dangerous, and the need for a causeway was born. The British East India Company, the governing body of Bombay at the time, could not finance the causeway. 

This caused Lady Jeejeebhoy and her husband, Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy, to donate the total amount of Rs.1,57,000 with the requirement that the government not charge an additional toll or cause disturbance to the Koli community living in the area.

The Mahim causeway connects to Swami Vivekanand Road and L.J.Road and is the stretch that runs between Bandra masjid and Mahim church (St. Michael’s). 

It should not be misinterpreted with the Bandra-Worli Sea link project, a major infrastructural project inaugurated on June 30, 2009, that is intended to make it easier for people to travel across the causeway through the construction of a second bridge that crosses Mahim Bay.
