Mumbai Fort – Business capital of Mumbai

Mumbai Fort is the Business capital of Mumbai. The name is derived from Fort George, which the British East India Company built.

It is the center of financial activity and much British time structure still stands tall. This is the financial capital of Mumbai.

Fort was considered to be the ‘go-to place’ for white-collar jobs. Prime offices and business establishments have their head offices situated here. Even now, it is considered a pride to have an office (even if small) in the Mumbai Fort area.

Bombay High Court at Mumbai is one of the oldest High Courts of India.

 

During the 90’s you would see people in crowded trains traveling all the way to Churchgate railway station or Victoria Terminus (Now CSTM) railway station for jobs and taking the same trains to return to their homes in the evening.

The Mumbai Fort area sidewalk is a must-see for anyone who would like to explore the olden Mumbai.

You will find vendors selling books, clothes, cameras, musical instruments, old coins, and old artistic items all through the sidewalks.

Many restaurants have been run for ages and are famous for their unique style of dishes.

The Crawford Market is one of the most visited places in the fort, dating back to the British era.

There is a big market inside this building which is as old as 1869. You will find everything from fruits, veggies, cosmetics, birds, and even animals are sold here.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a historic railway station in Mumbai, India.

You will find the old restaurants located in the Mumbai Fort area and are mostly owned and run by Iranian’s and Parsi’s, serving some very authentic dishes, which will ensure you will come back again.

The Yazdani Bakery is famous for delicious Persian bread and is a heritage Parsi restaurant since 1923.

Very close to the fort is the famous Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Hotel. Flora fountain is another famous monument built in 1864, which depicts the Roman goddess Flora.

There are some very old churches, museums and historical places which have stood the passage of time. The architecture of these buildings is unique and can only be seen in this part of Mumbai.

By Rail: There is 2 nearby railway station. Both are the last train stop and within walking distance from Fort Mumbai.

  1. CSTM Terminus Railway Station (Central Railway)
  2. Church Gate Railway Station (Western Railway).
